Jackson Hole Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

Those staying in Jackson Hole will soon realize that the climate can be a little changeable, and the weather somewhat unpredictable. However, in general Jackson Hole experiences hot summers and very cold winters, when snowfall is heavy and surrounding winter ski resorts quickly become busy.

Close to Jackson Hole, the mountains and ski resorts can experience many feet on snow in the winter months, when cross-country skiers and snowboarders flock to the ever-popular Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (in Teton Village) and also the nearby Snow King Resort, particularly on the sunniest, crisp days. From April onwards, the climate soon begins to warm up and the snow quickly begins to melt and disappear, being replaced by meadows of wild flowers and springtime blossom.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

By May, most lakes around Jackson Hole have started to thaw, heralding the start of the fishing season once more. Temperatures in May soon creep up to around 18°C / 64°F or 19°C / 66°F by day, although overnight frosts are not uncommon. Whilst May is classed as the wettest month, precipitation levels rarely rise much above 5 cm / 2 inches for the entire month.

The summer climate in Jackson Hole falls between mid-June and mid-September and peaks between July and August, when temperatures soar to more than 30°C / 86°F and sunshine is at its most plentiful. Afternoon thunderstorms come and go at times, and the nights begin to feel much milder. Fall is a very appealing time to pay a visit to Jackson Hole, when the climate remains quite pleasant, and the herds of migrating elk can be observed, particularly around the neighboring Grand Teton National Park.
